I'm curious as to why they split up the classes for Long Beach and Belle Isle.

Long Beach doesn't have a lot of paddock space, so splitting it up and not bringing the Pro-Am classes makes sense.
Detroit is Le Mans test weekend, and at least 4 of the top GTE cars will be going. Splitting them off means there won't be championship implications to racing at Le Mans.

Darn, I missed your post. Sorry. And I completely forgot about Le Mans test weekend. I heard the reason was because of Le Mans but I knew Le Mans wasn't THAT weekend.

I think the transit time is more important. Corvette were tight this year, shipped a bunch of spares before Laguna Seca by sea, then had to quickly pack up the cars after the race and send them air freight. Had they wrecked either car at Laguna they would have been in big trouble.

Significant, which is why most international racing series prefer to have enough of a gap to send all the cars by ship together.
